Some years ago, when my oldest was still in school I made a Gingerbread Log Cabin. I have since lost the pattern I used. (maybe it was on purpose) I love the way it turned out but it was a lot of work. My son was going to Vo Tech studying Culinary Arts. The teacher was having them make Gingerbread houses for Christmas. My son told his teacher that his mother had a cake business (sigh, I do miss that) & that I had made this Gingerbread Log Cabin. Next thing I know I get a call from my son's teacher asking me to come in & teach the class on cake decorating. I was tickled but made sure it was alright with my son first cause you know teenagers embarrass easily. My son thought is was a great idea & when I finished picking my jaw up off the floor I then began to panic. What was I gonna say to a roomful of teenage wanna be chefs? My son asked that I also bring in the Gingerbread Log Cabin. Here is the photo of said cabin.
It had a little well & a small picket fence. The chimney was "built" with cashew pieces. The roof was made from Frosted Mini Wheats. The cabin itself was make from "logs" of gingerbread.
The class went well with students actually asking the teacher when I would return to teach another class. That I have to admit made me feel like I was walking on air as I left the classroom.
After the Holidays the cabin was placed outside on our picnic table for the birds & the squirrels to devour. They did so with a quickness.
So that is the story of my Gingerbread Log Cabin.
I am thankful I somehow (don't ask cause I don't know how I did it) got my printer/scanner running again. (now if I just had ink)
