Me & The Broom & Tornado Warnings

Soggy morning to you out there in Blogland! Yes more rain has hit my area. We have Tornado warnings for today. The Hubs has a doctor appointment in Tampa which involves crossing the Howard Franklin Bridge. Crossing that bridge is a feat for dare devils in good weather. But of course the doctors office has to see him to give him a script for his medicine (& collect that fee for being seen) so he has to traverse over this beast of a bridge to get there & the weather is menacing. Here is a shot of the Howard Franklin as it looks as I write this.

The Broom & I headed out earlier in this mess & I have to keep an eye on my Broom because he is quite the thrill seeker. If he sees a funnel cloud he thinks.....FUN!

(I so need a new Broom)

Look It! Look It What I Just Got!

Oh my Blogland Peeps I am so excited & I wanted to share it with you all! I went to see a dear friend of mine, Antionette. She is 79 years old & man do I wish I had the energy this woman has! She can wear you out with her energy. I sometimes get worn out just hearing about what she did during her day. As  I was leaving her place I commented on some furniture she had on her covered patio. It was Moroccan in style & I was stunned by it. She says " Oh, I got that when my sister's place was redone". Then I remembered having seen the furniture before years ago. Then she says, "You want it Dahlin"? (she is from New Orleans & has never lost the accent...I adore it!) I was totally blown away. I was like, "Nette, you don't want to get rid of that". And she was like," Yes I do & I'm giving you first dibs on it".  Now, I got to Nette's house as she was out running errands & I had my private little drool session over the furniture already & had actually snapped some photos with my cell phone & sent them to my email. When I got home I called the Hubs over to the computer & showed him the photos. The pieces are old & need some TLC but I know I can handle that. I told the Hubs that the furniture wants to come with us to PA & can I keep it.  As soon as he said "Oh hell yes". I was on the phone & asked Nette was she serious about the furniture. So when we get the moving truck on Saturday, we are headed to Nette's to get the stuff. Without further ado, I would like to introduce you to my "new stuff"!

This cabinet & the two tall brass candle holders. The candles are wood with fake wicks but totally rock. The chair on the left with the box on it you cannot see really well so I will show you it's twin.

Ain't it cool?

Check out the side detailing....

I know I will have a lot of fun getting these pieces back in tip top shape!  I will even let you all come along for the ride cause you know that you will see these pieces again in another post!

Me & The Broom & My Last Wednesday In Florida

Morning Blogland. I am a bit sad today as this is my last week in Florida. After living here since 1997 it's really gonna be tough to leave here & relocate in the frozen tundra of PA. My Broom is not too happy either. He is like me & does not take to the cold all that well. I have seen him eying the scarf I was crocheting for my granddaughter. Guess I have to come up with something for him as well. The house is a total wreck with boxes everywhere. Our cats are tripping out & wondering why we are decorating with boxes that they cannot make forts out of. The Broom woke me early (surprise....not). Almost broke my neck trying to navigate around boxes in the living room

Me & The Broom & Oh I Hate Packing Boxes!

Hello Blogland. Well the rain has calmed down quite a bit here in sunny Florida. We sure needed the rain & oh boy did we ever get a bunch yesterday & overnight. My Broom had no problem this morning waiting for the rain to stop long enough for us to take off over Blogland. I spent more time packing up the kitchen yesterday while it was raining. Need to get a few more boxes & then all that will be left to pack will be toothbrushes & junk like that. One good thing is now I have an excuse not to cook anything that requires more spice than just salt & pepper, cause all my spices are packed! In a couple more days we will be eating off of paper plates or as I like to say.....the fine china. Anyway, my Broom & I took off & went to some pretty nifty places today.

Cupcake Scarf

Ok Blogland, if you all remember, I showed off the Strawberry Shortcake hat I crocheted for my granddaughter Jessica. This time I am showing you the scarf I have crocheted to match the hat.

It is not a long scarf. Jessica is only a year old but the way this pattern is, I can always add more cupcakes when she gets bigger! I got the pattern here.

Extreme close-up.

Lighting is a bit off as it is raining buckets (not actual buckets cause if they were metal...wow it would be loud)  outside right now & natural light is not working for me right now.

Another extreme close-up.

I sewed the pompom "cherries" on instead of using fabric glue. As I mentioned, Jessica is a year old & I do not need my son calling & informing me that they found "cherries" in Jessica's diaper.

I did not have a pattern for the hat as you recall & just made it up as I went along. The pattern for the scarf kind of inspired me to make the hat.

Hope you all like it. I am now trying to go about getting measurements of my other grandchildren's heads cause there are more hats & scarves to make!

Me & The Broom & A Whole Lotta Rain

Hello Blogland! Boy was is wet this morning when my Broom & I took off to fly over Blogland. Almost made me wish that my type flew on mops! (Broom is giving me the evil eye over that comment) We needed the rain here in sunny Florida. Things were a bit dry. But at least it is not cold. That will happen to me soon enough as the weather in the Northern States has not figured out it is Spring. Off we went!

Heritage Village, Largo, Florida

Yesterday the Hubs & I decided to take a break from packing & headed over to Heritage Village in Largo. Maybe a 20 minute drive from our house (closer once when we lived in Largo). We have been on this area since 1997 & had never gone to Heritage Village. It's a case of taking something for granted cause it's right in your backyard. Heritage Village is chocked full of historical buildings & houses from different areas around Pinellas County. It is free but they accept donations to help keep the place going. We had a blast & I wanted to share our day with you, my Blogland Peeps!

To your left upon crossing the bridge into Heritage Village you come up to the Williams Park Bandstand.
This is a reproduction of the Bandstand that was built in 1894 in St. Petersburg.
This was awesome & I would love to have this as a gazebo!

Here is a photo of yours truly on the steps of the Safety Harbor Church that was built in 1905.

Here is the Hubs standing behind the pulpit of the Safety Harbor Church. That is the original pulpit & railing.

Here is the church from the outside.

This sweet piece of property is the Plant-Sumner house. Built in 1896 this baby had electricity, running water & indoor plumbing. This was a dream house for most people back then to be sure!

Here is a shot of the fireplace mantel. Loving the brickwork here.

Dining Room in the Plant-Sumner House.

Loved this mirror & the old victrola was actually working!

Had to get a shot of the bathroom wall cause in the house we are moving to it is almost just like this!. Hubs was able to better describe the house to me using this house as a reference cause the floorboards & framework are very similar. Most of the windows in the house we are moving to are the original windows, full of bubbles & imperfections!

Love the dresser on the left. I remember that my grandparents has the same type in their house. I sure wish I had that stuff now....Scavenger hunt to start for me in PA.!

We thought this antique baby walker was too awesome!

The Child's bed & chair were drooling material to be sure. I was mentally making up a "shopping list" of items I'd love to have.

So loving the corner closets.

Now I am really into antiques but I am very happy that our kitchen is a bit more modern than this one!

This old ice box would probably work in our kitchen in the house in PA. It was not made for a whole lot of today's full sized appliances (sigh)

Feeling the bake ware though. Don't you just love the old stuff?

Hubs chillin' on the porch of the Plant-Sumner house.

Next on the agenda was the House of Seven Gables. This place has 13 rooms & was built overlooking Clearwater Bay. It was built in 1907.

I could really get my groove on in a crib like this people!

I just love everything about this place.

This bedroom belonged to the family seamstress who actually lived in the house.

Shot of one of the plants in the Garden For The Blind. The plants are very aromatic & descriptive captions are given in Braille.

Next on the tour was the McMullen-Coachman House. This is the oldest structure in Pinellas County built in 1852, in what is referred to as "Cracker" style

This house has a breezeway through the middle of the house & large gaps in the walls to allow breezes to flow & cool the house. Hubs was worried what the mosquito ratio was per person in this house.

This is actually a good sized cabin.

The rest of Boyer Cottage.

There you have some of our day. My camera batteries conked out on me. There is much more to see at Heritage Village than I was able to show you. So glad we finally made it there. Again please ignore the date on the pictures. Still trying to figure out how to turn that off on the camera. After we left Heritage Village, the Hubs & I headed to Quaker Steak & Lube for some wings & chili. It was nice taking a break from packing & seeing some of the sites we should have seen long before now.
