Working on a Snow Globe

Good day to you Blogland! I am working on a Snow Globe. I had this vision in my mind but I guess my mind's eye is on a different wave length than reality cause it needs some tweaking. First off I got this supposedly "high tech good quality glue" that is supposed to work on all kinds of things including glass. Well they should have said excluding glass & string.  I tried to glue some tiny glittery icicle thingys to the inside top of of my Snow Globe but that was a failure. So, I took it from there. Actually it is a non-shakey Snow Globe. I just call it that cause I used some spray snow. Okay, started with this stuff: (well, not the red ribbon. That just snuck on into the shot. I promise this will end up looking much better.

Got the idea from Sunny's version over at Sunnys Life in Rehab
(hers looks way better)

Sorry the photo came out pretty blurry but this is a gingerbread cookie I got from Dollar Tree today. I also snagged a red glass candle stand & bowl thingy. Plus other stuff I will not bore you with that all total came to $30.00. But for this project it was only $3.00

I glued the gingerbread house cookie to the bottom of the candle stand. Yea, I turned this thing upside down. You know cause I work that way.  The top of the glass bowl fight right into the raised feet of the candle stand. But before I attached the bowl ,I sprayed some fake snow around the gingerbread house.

I also sprayed some on the the inside of the bowl top. You have to make sure the spray snow dries before attaching the bowl so there is no moisture to cause the gingerbread house to grow mold & turn mega funky. Once dried I attached the glass bowl top.

Ok these pictures pretty much bites like a big dog & my Snow Globe needs more work. Plus it actually looks pretty cool in real time but these photos, yea, they bite.

I may crack the globe open & add some more stuff inside & maybe more spray snow around the top of  the bowl. But really, it does look much, much better in person.

Office Lamp Redo

My Thrift Store office lamp was always meant to be redone but I had not found the "right" shade for it & the one it had was getting a bit dry rot. I was getting desperate so I decided to use what I had on hand to give my lamp new life. I have had this fabric laying around for a while, not quite knowing what I was going to do with it. (still have bunches left by the way) The Hubs was heading out to the store this morning & I asked him to grab me some spray paint while he was making his manly rounds ( hardware store & the like). Here is what the lamp base looked like before ( did not get a shot of base & shade together for some reason)

The little light specs you can see on the desk top are parts of my crumbling lamp shade. I know, I should hang my head in shame that I let it go this long but it is something I use quite a bit. Next are some shots of the offending lamp shade.

It was falling apart as I put it on the counter!

Quite hideous I know. But seeing as I never look at the top of the lamp, I did not realize it was this bad. Yea...pretty bad.  I measured wrapped the fabric around the crumbling shade & marked where I wanted to cut my fabric with a sharpie. Did a slip stitch around what was going to be the top. (by hand of course since my sewing machine foot & power cord are still being held hostage by Trolls in the garage) I also hand stitched the side seam.

Laid it over the top of the funky shade to make sure the gathers would be uniform & started gluing with my hot glue gun ( kapow!)

Meanwhile my lamp was outside in the spraying spot (the rain stopped) I gave it a couple of coats of the black spray paint my Knight in Shining Armour picked up for me.

Had to put a cross from the Halloween graveyard on my cardboard cause it was windy. That as you know makes for a real fun time while spray painting! It helped dry the paint faster & luckily I caught my Hubs before he took Bandit D. Bunny out to the side yard to brush him or I would have ended up with a lamp base trimmed in rabbit fur. ( that happened to one of my brochure trees....men) So the lamp base dried and my refurbished lamp shade was ready. I love how it turned out. It just screams "Me"!

And there you have it my peeps. My "new" old lamp.

Container Snowman

Alrighty then Blogland it is time for more crafting stuff with your favorite Crafty Witch! (no.....sigh... I meant me)  Today I am going to show you how to make  Snowman head decoration out of ...(wait for it....) trash! Yup, you read that right, trash. This guy will join up with my Trashy Holiday Wreath at a later date. (cue cliff hanger music) Okay for starters you need two empty ice cream containers like this.

I usually don't go this extravagant with the ice cream purchases but they were 2 for $5.00 & I just could not walk past that! I know you are feeling my meaning here people! Back to business. Two containers like this, washed out & dried. You don't want to soak these containers cause they will warp & not be any good. Wash them out fast but not with too hot of water cause you do not want to melt the thin wax coating off or once again it will be no good to use due to warping. I sprayed on a coat of Kilz Satin Finish in Brown Sugar (yup I still have some of that left) on each container. I love the Kilz cause it usually takes just one coat. I painted a Snowman face on one container (this will be your bottom piece)

I used acrylic paints & just painted my face on free hand (I know...that takes talent...right?) Then I painted
the other container black (this is your top). While that was drying I glued some cardboard pieces to the lid top of my bottom section to have a "meeting point" between the two containers.

The amount of cardboard pieces you use will vary depending on the degree of dippage in the lid & the size of the bottom lip. I cut out a piece of cardboard in the shape of a pipe, painted it black & hot glued it just at the edge of my Snowman's mouth. Added some folded paper trim to the top piece, glued them together & I got this:

So here you have it my Peeps. A Snowman's head made from trash & once again it's my favorite price.....Free!
I will be filling the bottom container with rocks since this is gonna sit outside on my table in the front of the house. That way with the rocks it will not blow away too easily & end up in the neighbor's yard & have them ticked off at me. If you make one of your own I would love to see the pics of how it turned out.

Clothes Pin Chair

Here is a craft I remember way back when from Girl Scouts (yup, I was one...go figure huh?) Anyway as none of my creations from back then have survived I decided to try my hand at it again. Here we go off to Crafty Land. Hold on tight & "poof".

To start you need 13 spring type clothes pins. Remove the spring. I find the spring is easier to remove if you are hanging clothes on a line. They always pop off then with no problem. (save the springs cause this will be a project to come)

For the rocker glue two pieces together as in photo above. You need to do two of these.

Next glue & add the legs & arms on your rockers just like the pic shows. The doubled ones are for the back legs. Notice how your chair arm slants ever so slightly.  Repeat on second rocker.

Now to start on you chair back. The center piece is positioned just under the grooves on the pin sections with flat sides touching & glue into place. You can use a hot glue gun or white craft glue. Just remember to allow the white craft glue to dry thoroughly. A hot glue gun will allow you to crank out a bunch of these babies in no time.
Turn your back support over & add three more pin sections as pictured. Try to keep the bottoms as even as you can as this will save you from adding money to your cussing jar later on.
Now to add the seat supports. Just below the grooves as shown. Making sure to keep them as straight as possible. The front support will be slightly lower than the back.
Attach the seat sections as evenly placed as you can, with flat sides down.  Add money to cussing jar.

Next to add a pin section to the back of your chair legs right where the legs & arms meet. Attach flat side.

Now to add your chair back (you can see why you want those tilted back slats to stay even) &  there you have it. A rocking chair! You can leave it natural as pictured above or paint it.
You now have a place for a doll to sit or you can glue on flowers or small Christmas ornaments to the seat & back for a cute low cost (it can be if you mind you language) decoration or gift.
I snagged my clothes pins from the dollar store. For just a few bucks & a little time you can create a bunch of these for gift giving.
Add small books or a micro mini chalk board for a sweet teacher's gift. The possibilities are endless. If you make some I would love to see them. So have at it & have fun!

I am thankful for low cost gift ideas

If you are wondering why I am adding things I am thankful for in my posts for this month, the reason is this. Joni from Red Couch Recipes issued this challenge:
With every post you write from now until Thanksgiving, include a blurb, with or without a picture ,  of something specific you are thankful for.

I am submitting this to Metamorphosis Monday  Between Naps on the Porch
Cause look at what a handful of clothes pins turned into!

Creepy Books

These babies are my favorite project to date. Not a quick process but well worth the time involved. This idea came from a post from Dave Lowe Designs.  For these books I used standard Composition notebooks. I got mine at the local dollar store for a buck each. The first one is a book I have made for my oldest grandson Ryan. I cut out corrugated cardboard in my shape & glued it onto the front of the book. I used some extra for added dimension. Once I was happy with my design I added the raised area for the book label. My printer is down so the lettering was done by hand. The paper is regular printer paper that I soaked for ten minutes or so in a hot tea bath to give it the antique look.

After the shapes were in place I used a left over party napkin and fit it to the book cover with a wash made of water, my chosen paint color & white craft glue. You do not want this smooth as that would be impossible with the cardboard shapes underneath. Plus when it is dried you end up with an old weathered leather look. Now my grandson has a journal he can write in. You can also do this technique on old books to use for fill in decor for Halloween.

These last two books are done without using a focal raised cardboard design on a smaller type journal style book. The compass came from the dollar store & was in a bag of Pirate themed party favors. Six in a bag for $1.00. I used paper mache clay to hold it to the front of the book. It also gives it a cool look. The back of the compass was not even & glue was just not an option. This one will be labeled as a Guide to Pirate Treasure Hunting for my grandson Bradley. The glittery skull  cross bones came from a key chain. This book is for my granddaughter Jessica & is titled Pirate Princess Etiquette.
I plan on making quite a few or these "journals" for my booth at the Farmer's Market. Of course the titles will be more generic unless a special order comes in! Okay...gotta go. The crafts, they are calling me. Can you hear them too or should  I worry about hearing voices now?

Magick Wands

Next up are some shots of my Magick Wands. Thanks again to my son Shannon for bringing his camera over & taking these pictures. The Wands are one of the easiest projects I have made so far. The designs on them are made with a hot glue gun. I used the smallest glue gun around for the fine details. The wands are not that big around & a too large glue gun will leave you with a big old blobby mess.
Some are wrapped with twine, some have dangling charms & others are accented with only the hot glue designs. For some I mixed different colors of acrylic paints with gold or silver paints for an extra added "magickal" effect.
Here is a shot of a few more of my already finished wands. I sprayed them Krylon's Triple-Thick Crystal Clear Glaze. I love the look the spray gives them. So shiny & ready to cast magickal spells! I am working on boxes for these guys but am having a problem coming up with the right technique to use in "finishing" the boxes. When I find the perfect solution I will surely post it so as to keep you in the loop. I sell the wands sans the boxes as of right now. Guess you could say that is thinking outside the box! (groan.....I know but I am still waking up & have my I.V. drip hooked up to the coffee pot as I am posting this)
