Sweet Taters ala Evonne

My Facebook friend Evonne sent me this recipe of Sweet Potatoes made with Jack Daniels whiskey. I must admit I love a shot of Jack Daniels at the holidays. On to the recipe & a huge "Thanks Girl" to Evonne.

I do not have a picture of this so I snagged  a cool Thanksgiving thingy from the interwebz.
Evonne's Sweet Taters

Prep. Time: 1 :30
6-8 lrg. sweet potatoes - peeled /4 cup butter /4 cup granulated
sugar OR
light brown sugar /8 tsp. salt /4 cup Jack Daniel's ® Whiskey
/2 cup chopped
pecans -Boil sweet potatoes in water for 35 minutes, or until tender.
We also
nuke potatoes till soft. -Drain and cool slightly.
Mash the potatoes and
butter together with an electric mixer. -Stir in sugar,
salt, and whiskey.
-Spread 1 /2 the sweet potato mixture in a greased
2 quart casserole dish,
then sprinkle 1 /2 the pecans on top.optional. -
Spread the remaining sweet
potato mixture on top and sprinkle with remaining
pecans. -Bake in a 325
degree oven for 35 minutes.

Hope you enjoy this recipe! Remember to have a few samples of the Jack Daniels just to make sure it is good enough for the sweet potatoes!  Of course you must first be "tall enough to ride this ride"  or no samples for you!

I am thankful that I am "tall enough to ride this ride".

Don't forget to leave a comment. I love hearing from cool folks like yourself.

Helping Hand from Martha

Martha Stewart has gone & done it this time. Her site has a handy dandy list of these you can make ahead before that big day when the relatives & friends come to snarf at your table. Martha suggests you make your pie crusts now & freeze them. (head palm) You can buy it frozen so why can't you freeze your own? Yea...that is exactly what I was thinking! She has recipes for mashed potatoes you can make the day before, gravy & wait for it.....Salmon Mousse. My oldest grandson loves salmon. I bet he would  flip over that. Ya think?
Thanks for the tips Martha for saving us time on Turkey Day! I mean wouldn't it be cool to visit for a bit & catch up on the family news instead of being stuck behind the stove before you are stuck behind the sink & then stuck in front of the fridge wondering where to put the leftovers? Your friends & family will think you are magick!
I am thankful for Martha Stewart.

Thanksgiving

Okay technically Thanksgiving for us Wiccans  falls on the Autumn Equinox. We call that Mabon this is one of the two days a year that night & day are in balance The other day is the Spring Equinox. Traditionally Mabon marks the day of the second harvest & is the time to give thanks. But.....a chance for a wonderful meal that includes turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes & other nummy noms? That is a chance that cannot be passed up. Oh no, huh uh. So not to worry kiddies I will be posting all sorts of ideas, crafts & recipes for this holiday.  But do not be surprised if some sort of Witchy theme pops in cause that is just how I fly. Get ready for November you all!
