Wickedly Haunted Thursdays-Why They Stick Around

A Wickedly Haunted Thursday to all of you out there in Blogland! Today we will explore some reasons why ghosts are around us & why they can't or won't move on....

An article from the Paranormal Daily News fills us in on this

So, why would anyone choose to stay around rather than move on? These are some possible reasons:
1. TRAUMA: They died so suddenly or violently that they don’t know they’re dead or simply refuse to accept it.
2. LACK OF A BELIEF SYSTEM: They expected non-existence following death and have trouble coping with the fact that they’re still around and aware.
3. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Something needs to be completed; for example, an important project at work or home. An intense interest in “seeing it through” can cause a person to linger for a while on the earth plane. The desire to send a message to someone still living can also be a powerful reason to remain.
4. PROTECTION: A spirit may be trying to protect a loved one for some reason and is reluctant to move on until they’re assured of their safety.
5. LOVE: A very strong love bond between spouses, parent/child, or even friends can cause a spirit to remain.
6. HATE: A very strong hatred toward a living person or persons could be the reason why a particular spirit chooses to stay. They’re holding on to their anger, resentment, and hatred.
7. FEAR: People who have been followers of very rigid religious dogma are sometimes afraid to move on to the next stage. They fear judgment, punishment, or being sent to hell to be tortured for eternity, not realizing that their “hells” are self-created.
8. FAMILIARITY: A spirit may simply feel most comfortable in the environment of a beloved home and be reluctant to leave. They’re happiest in familiar surroundings and may stay only a few years and then choose to cross over when they’re ready.
9. CURIOSITY: Some spirits stick around simply to see what happens next – who’s going to win the election? When is that new movie coming out? What’s going to happen next with Jon & Kate? These are generally spirits who, when living, tended to be very involved with earthly activities and interests and they’re not quite ready to give them up.
10. REVENGE: A spirit may be looking to avenge their murder or betrayal. Or, they may feel “cheated,” not realizing that it was their time to die. They may be envious towards those still on the physical plane and may be looking for opportunities for revenge.

Wickedly Haunted Thursdays-Gettysburg, PA.

Hey Blogland! Today is Thursday & that means another haunted tale from Wickedly Haunted Thursdays. Today's haunting is very, very sad. But even very sad stories need to be told. I spent a lot of time in Gettysburg while growing up. My mother would load us kids & some of the neighbor's children as well into the big old Country Squire Station Wagon & off we went for adventure. Many a day was spent in Gettysburg. My older brother Don & my cousin David & I would traipse through museums & battle fields. My brother was always the Confederate & my cousin the Union soldier. We would re-enact the battles in our own way using tons of imagination & facts that we had gleaned from so much time spent with the history of the place.

A Union soldier was found dead on the battle field in a secluded spot, clutching a photo of his three small children.

The soldier had no identification on him & people wanted to find out who he was to possibly return the photo to his children & to let them know that with his last dying breath, their father was thinking of them & holding them close. The Philadelphia Enquirer printed the photo in hopes that someone would recognize the children & in turn the authorities could find out who he was.

These were his children:

The mans wife Phelinda  Humiston, came forward. She found out the fate of her husband & received the photo. So many kind & generous  people sent money to help the widow & her now fatherless children. So many that Phelinda was able to help other children by opening an orphanage for children from 11 different states who had become orphans from the war.

Phelinda came to care for over 60 children at the orphanage.  Things cannot always stay the same & for some unknown reason  Phelinda moved away & left the orphanage in the hands of Rosa Carmichaels. Phelinda had no way of knowing that she was leaving her innocent charges in the hands of a monster. Rosa beat the children & tortured them. Some being shackled  to the basement walls & left to die.

A young girl managed to run away & tell her stories to the authorities. An investigation ensued & her stories, to the horror of all were found out to be true.

Children were tied to fences in the hot sun until they had severe burns. Torture devices were found in the house also.

The orphanage was closed & left unused until it was made into the Civil War Museum in 1950.  The shackles can still be seen hanging from the basement walls & visitors to the museum hear children crying & also feel tugs at their clothing made by unseen little hands.

Many Ghost Hunters have investigated the old orphanage & have collected electronic voice phenomena. I have been to the Civil War Museum many times & I can tell you that there is something there. The feeling you get in the pit of your stomach tells a story of total sadness.

Phelinda created a house of love & family for those young orphans that Rosa transformed into her own private hell with her in charge. Luckily for those surviving orphans that one young girl managed to get away & save them in time. Sadly, those that did not make it out alive are still there tied to the place of their death.

Gettysburg saw many horrors during the Civil War & it has many, many ghosts with stories to tell........

Wickedly Haunted Thursdays

A wicked Thursday to you all out there in Blogland. It's time once again for Wickedly Haunted Thursdays......

Today I am sharing with you the haunting story of the Gates of Hell, right outside of Uniontown, PA. Legend has it that one night a husband went totally insane & killed his wife, set fire to their house & then killed himself. Many people have visited the gates at night when the paranormal activities are at their peak.

Visitors at night have reported hearing demonic type laughter & orbs such as in this photo floating in the areas behind the gate. The original gate was made of wrought iron but sadly had been vandalized over the years to the point that this newer set of gates was installed.

A bit behind the new gate you can see the posts of the original gate. People have felt the presence of two spirits. One is said to be laid back & trouble free. The other is said to feel quite evil.  The surrounding woods have over the years reclaimed most of the original drive that led up to the burned down house.

Lots of midnight visitors to the gates have reported hearing voices & seeing smoke or orbs of light floating about. Some have experienced car trouble once they got the vibe to get out of the area.

Would you visit at night?

What makes a man snap & kill his wife & then turn the gun on himself? Inner demons or did he maybe get an evil push?

Tell me of any haunted places you know of or if there is a haunting story you would like for me to check out.

Until next time my Blogland friends!
