My Most Viewed Blog Post of All Time

Morning Blogland!

I am not sure why I haven't posted on this sooner. Maybe I was waiting for the hype to fade, not really sure. But my all time viewed blog post is the post I did
about the Faux Wood Boards I made for Halloween back on October 15, 2011.

I am amazed that this link get hits on it daily. Every day since I posted this, there is a number of people checking out this post! I am blown away by this.

A little while ago, this post had 47 hits for the day.

Bringing the all time total views to 18,142!
All those views & only six comments on the post for it's entire time out in cyber space!
Most of the views come from Pinterest. The funny thing about that to me is I am not even on Pinterest.
If by chance you are one of the rare few that have not viewed this post ever, I am including the link right here:
For those of you who have viewed this, my thanks to you many times over! It's nice to know that my blog gets visited on a daily basis even if it is my those who don't want to admit they poofed on into a blog post done by a Wiccan!
Not a problem. We can keep it our little secret!
My Broom says "hi" to all of you by the way.

Faux Wood Boards

Hey Blogland! Need a cheap way to get your house looking scary this Halloween? Well, I will show you how to make faux wood boards to "board" up your windows! All you need Kiddies is some cardboard & some brown tempura paint & something to apply the paint with.

This stuff I have had for over five years at least....but hey, it still worked!

I used a large (dry) paint brush to apply my undercoat of paint

It is important to go back & forth with the paint & not just go crazy with the brush. Keeping your strokes going one way is how you create the "wood grain"

Next add random strokes of paint for more wood texture. You can also dot some paint & then lightly brush over it. Remember to keep your strokes going one way! Some you can angle slightly for a more natural look.

This section above had a packing label on it & the top layer of cardboard peel off with the label. I used it anyway cause I liked the marred look it gave my piece of wood.

Here are two pieces of my "wood" drying. For house windows you only need to paint one side of the cardboard. I did some for my work place & painted both sides since customers will see it from inside the store as well as outside.

In the above shot I used the end of my brush to create the wood "knot".  I dipped the end of the brush in the paint & lightly dabbed off the excess then placed the brush flat on the cardboard & twisted it in a circle. Lift the brush & like magick...... a knot in your wood!

Smaller sections of cardboard can be used to make signs

Such as this "Danger" sign

And this "Beware" sign I have on my front door

Once your "wood" pieces have dried, grab a hammer & nails or a staple gun & make your house look "boarded up"!

There you have it Blogland! Faux wood.

Hey, it's Halloween time....have fun with it!

Cardboard Haunted House

Morning Blogland. I have returned with a Halloween decoration that is easy as all get out to create. All you need is some cardboard & a can of spray paint.

The cardboard is very forgiving if you are spray painting over it as you will see in the pic below. Draw your pattern on the cardboard & if you make a booboo, not to worry as you will be painting over the bad stuff.

Here I have my pattern drawn out

My mistakes are circled but once the pattern is cut out & painted.....nobody but us has to know!

The sun is glaring on it a bit but this turned out pretty awesome. It is going to work to be put up in the window so I painted both sides.

(The close up shot again)

Have fun with your cardboard people!

Nest I will show you how to create faux wood on your cardboard......so stay tuned.

Deadly Lion Wine

Hey Blogland! Me again with another Halloween decoration idea! I had this bottle sitting around since I lived in Florida. (yes I packed & moved an empty bottle.....2 actually) Here it is:

The blue color of the bottle just screams "do something with me"!
So, I said, "okay".
I started off with a cob web pattern made with a white paint pen. The paint pen has been around awhile & is starting to run out of oomph so I went back over the pattern with a silver paint pen.

Decided on the name for my "wine". Deadly Lion Wine. And proceeded to write it on the bottle & not plotting it out first. Wrote it too high up. A scrubby took that right off even though it had dried. I then paid attention to what I was doing & rewrote my label.

Next up was some Halloween Creepy Cloth.

All I did was snip off a small section of one end.

I placed some white glue on a piece of wax paper & set a small section of my creepy cloth on top.

There it is sitting atop a glob of glue. I then smooshed it all around in the glue getting it nice & coated. Then I placed it on the bottle around my "label".

This was a bit messy & I know I used some words I dare not repeat here.  Lay the bottle down a bit on something where it will not roll over & smash the glue coated cloth.
Once I won that war, I added a smaller section to the bottom portion creating a frame if you will for my label.

I tossed a smaller section of creepy cloth over the top &  here you go!
(remember that this takes skill & dexterity folks!)

There she is. I have to decide what I will do with her match. So you know another Creepy Bottle is in the future!

Stuff That Makes Me Drool

I have decided to open up to all of my friends out there in Blogland. I have a weak side. Yes, tis true.......I am not all that proud of it but I felt the need to come clean with all of you.  I consider all of my Blogland peeps as my confidants so here goes.

I am so in love with Halloween Decor. There, I said it & I feel so much better that I have gotten that off of my chest & shared it with all of you. On a recent trip to Big Lots I of course ended up in the Halloween decor isle. I wanted one or two of everything but I managed to keep a hold on myself & my pocketbook. I took photos of my favorite stuff instead.

This "welcome" Witch's boot caught my fancy

As did this haunted house pumpkin

More boots. Wire mesh & glitter this time.

Loved this "Best Witches" sign hanging from a broom!

Yet another wickedly awesome pair of boots

Totally loved this guy! From his cheesy smile, wispy whiskers & his funky hat.

Really had to keep myself in check with this one or I would have ended up in the checkout line with him.

Thank you my friends for letting me tell a bit of my darker side. I do not want the weather to get cold but I am excited that Halloween is not too far away.

Gots Me a Camera!

My husband Michael & I went out to grab a pumpkin, breakfast & some groceries. After the pumpkin was found the breakfast eaten he informed me that we were heading to Target to get a digital camera for me. I was getting out of the car to go look at a camera & almost tripped over my chin cause it & my mouth were still in my lap. I am so happy with my new camera! Here are some quick shots I took while still tweeking my knowledge of the camera's abilities.
Here is the front of our house. Went for the whimsical look this year. Our Cemetery is in the side yard.
The pumpkin we got & some gourds for company. The cinder blocks in the background & the empty cat litter bag are part of our rabbit's play area & he did not put his toys away when he was done like he is supposed to. The rabbit loves to get in the empty litter bag & hide from us. See he figures if he can't see you then you can't see him.
Here is our rabbit. Bandit D. Bunny.  The door to his cage stays open at all times but he was mad because my husband cleaned the cage & ruined the funk theme Bandit is trying for lately.
This is our cat D'Artagnon. He is happiest when he is pouting over something. He still believes he should be an only child & everything belongs to him.

This tough looking guy is Ramses. He is my body guard & follows me everywhere in the house. He loves to help Bandit make sure his parsley is fresh when he gets it for dinner. Ramses always has to do a taste test.
Here is my Husbands pumpkin after he carved it out.
Here is a sign that hangs in my office. Yes my office is painted that color. I truly love it. My office has been neglected a bit since I had surgery but now that I can once again walk upright I have to give it some TLC & then I will post pictures of it. It is pretty cool!
Have a safe & Happy Halloween & don't forget to keep an extra sharp eye out for Trick or Treaters if you are out driving today.
I gots me a camera! tee hee!
