Office Lamp Redo

My Thrift Store office lamp was always meant to be redone but I had not found the "right" shade for it & the one it had was getting a bit dry rot. I was getting desperate so I decided to use what I had on hand to give my lamp new life. I have had this fabric laying around for a while, not quite knowing what I was going to do with it. (still have bunches left by the way) The Hubs was heading out to the store this morning & I asked him to grab me some spray paint while he was making his manly rounds ( hardware store & the like). Here is what the lamp base looked like before ( did not get a shot of base & shade together for some reason)

The little light specs you can see on the desk top are parts of my crumbling lamp shade. I know, I should hang my head in shame that I let it go this long but it is something I use quite a bit. Next are some shots of the offending lamp shade.

It was falling apart as I put it on the counter!

Quite hideous I know. But seeing as I never look at the top of the lamp, I did not realize it was this bad. Yea...pretty bad.  I measured wrapped the fabric around the crumbling shade & marked where I wanted to cut my fabric with a sharpie. Did a slip stitch around what was going to be the top. (by hand of course since my sewing machine foot & power cord are still being held hostage by Trolls in the garage) I also hand stitched the side seam.

Laid it over the top of the funky shade to make sure the gathers would be uniform & started gluing with my hot glue gun ( kapow!)

Meanwhile my lamp was outside in the spraying spot (the rain stopped) I gave it a couple of coats of the black spray paint my Knight in Shining Armour picked up for me.

Had to put a cross from the Halloween graveyard on my cardboard cause it was windy. That as you know makes for a real fun time while spray painting! It helped dry the paint faster & luckily I caught my Hubs before he took Bandit D. Bunny out to the side yard to brush him or I would have ended up with a lamp base trimmed in rabbit fur. ( that happened to one of my brochure trees....men) So the lamp base dried and my refurbished lamp shade was ready. I love how it turned out. It just screams "Me"!

And there you have it my peeps. My "new" old lamp.
