20 Kid-Approved Casserole Sides - Yeah Right!

I get this email today from Parents Magazine titled  20 Kid-Approved Casserole Sides. So I think Okay I'll bite & I open the email & hit the link to go to the site the see these wondrous dishes. They even tell me "You're Welcome Mom" before I even click the link. Okay, here's how that went:

Tortellini Casserole -  I look over the recipe. Okay, my kids would have eaten this.

White Cheddar Mac & Cheese - First thing before I even click to see the recipe. I notice the peas. Nope my kids would not have touched it. My kids are now 32, 28 & 27 & they still would not touch it. Heck I wouldn't touch it!

Chicken Enchilada Casserole - Refried beans. Scratch that one.

Ravioli Lasagna - Has zucchini .....NEXT!

Chicken & Broccoli Casserole - Didn't even have to check the recipe. Broccoli? Not gonna happen.

Chicken Pot Pie - Sorry but no. It has carrots. (I was surprised there were no peas in this)

Tex-Mex Mac & Cheese - Maybe without the whole wheat pasta.

Hearty Lasagna - Here is one that would work.

Turkey Amandine - Almonds.....nope.

Beef Nacho Casserole - Olives & sweet peppers. My kids would ask if they could have cereal instead.

Polenta Lasagna - Okay...polenta = corn meal mush, oh & there is zucchini again.....(sigh)

Beef & Bean Tortilla Casserole - Kidney beans.  Moving on.

Spaghetti - Pepperoni Pie - Okay. I could get away with this one.

Cheeseburger-Zucchini Pie - There is the Z bomb again.

Sweet Potato & Bean Casserole - Chic peas, white beans, red kidney beans & sweet potatoes......(where are they getting these kids?) Heck I am making the gagging motion here!

Tortellini-Alfredo Casserole - Broccoli again. Nope!

Hearty Hot Dog Casserole -  Not with sauerkraut & my kids.

Pork Chop "n" Rice Casserole - Jalapeno diced tomatoes & green pepper.  (I'm just shaking my head)

Pizza Casserole -  Zucchini?!?! Green peppers. (I'd have better luck getting them to clean their rooms)

Eggs-for-Supper Casserole - Surimi....had to google that one. It means fish puree. Really? With eggs & creamed corn? Fish puree. No not happening. I wouldn't even attempt to bring the stuff in the house. (Not to upset anyone about that but thats how I feel. Sorry if you are a lover of Surimi)

Three dishes out of 20 that I could have served my children when they were young. And three dishes out of 20 I could serve my kids now that they are grown. I would love to know who these kids were that approved these dishes. They should be put under scientific study cause they must be a rare species.
Sorry Parents Magazine but you said you are welcome way too soon cause I can't say "thanks" for this list of recipes. (really sorry but thats just how its gotta be)

Here is the link check it out for yourselves.

I am thankful that I had the common sense to not even attempt to serve dishes like this when my kids were young, sparing me the grief that would have definitely gone along with it.

  1. Do you think when they said "kid" they meant a billy goat. Now I have heard that they WILL eat anything...LOL!! I love to cook and experiment but I didn't see many that my lil man would have even tried.

I love your blog....I do believe there is a kindred spirit in you. ^_^

    Hugs,

  3. Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

My kids LIKE vegetables, and I wouldn't have attempted most of these train wrecks. Those kids were being paid.
