A Frame to be Thankful For

A while back I picked up a picture frame for $.50 at a yard sale. Still had the original price tag of $19.99 on it & the glass sections were in great shape just a tad bit dirty.

Here it is with the back taken off of it, the glass out & the stock photos of people I don't know removed. Now I need some new Thanksgiving decorations so I thought I would start with this. I painted the frame with a white acrylic paint.
Here it is for your viewing pleasure.

I allowed the white paint to dry somewhat. Not totally cause I had an idea in my twisted head. Uh! I know! I was so proud of myself. Okay, okay after my white paint had set I began to paint over the white with a black acrylic wash. I wiped it off as soon as I did each frame section. Kinda like this. Well, actually like this.

Because the white paint was not totally, totally dry & also because I did not sand it or prime it first some tiny spots of the original frame finish showed through. That was what I was going for. Giving it a distressed effect without having to sand anything cause I still have not bought any sandpaper. I keep forgetting to get the stuff. Anyway here is how it looked when I was done with the black wash.

Unfortunately you cannot see the "distressed" parts in this picture. But they are there take my word for it. Please?  K thanks. While my frame was drying I cut out some cardboard backings for each section out of a frozen waffle box & painted them with orange tempura paint & let them dry as well.

When that was all good & dry I attached a felt sticker tree to one section. On the smallest frame I glued some popcorn kernels. On another I wrote the word Thanks with a magic marker & finally added an artificial flower that I had singed the petals on.
Here it is. My Thanksgiving decoration #1.

I liked both shots so I added them both. Oops behind my frame is another project I am doing for my office. I am giving my old clock a face lift.

I am thankful I happened to have all this stuff on hand!

  9. Now you see, I would never have thought of putting different items in each of the frames. That's what makes you creative and me a copier - which is what I'm going to do (copy) the next time I run across a picture frame set like the one you used.
